How to cook corn on the cob in the microwave
For perfect results every time follow this method for cooking corn on the cob in the microwave and you won't go wrong...
INSTRUCTION
1. For 1 to 4 ears of corn in the microwave
Arrange the ears of corn, un-shucked (keep the green leaves around the corn on) in the microwave.
You can set them on a microwaveable plate or tray or you can microwave the corn on the cob on wax paper or paper towel. Alternatively, place the corn straight into the microwave.
2. For more than 4 ears of corn
Do them in separate batches of 1-4 only.
3. Microwave for 3 to 5 minutes
For just 1 or 2 ears of corn, microwave on high for 3 minutes. For 3 or 4 ears, microwave for 4 minutes.
If you like softer corn or if your ears are particularly large, microwave for 1 extra minute.
4. Allow to cool
Set the ears on a cooling rack or cutting board to cool.
TOP TIP! When the leaves and silks (the long stringy things) are cool enough, cut off the end of the corn ear and remove the leaves. Serve with butter!
REMEMBER THIS WHEN MICROWAVING CORN ON THE COB
- Leave the husk on. The husk helps trap heat and moisture, cooking the kernels evenly.
- Rest the ears after cooking. After microwaving, be sure to let the ears sit for a few minutes before you shuck off the husks. They might feel only warm to the touch on the outside, but can be very hot on the inside. Wait until the silks and top leaves are cool enough to handle before peeling them off.
