Woolworths announces new coronavirus restriction on a very unlikely vegetable

'This is the most bizarre thing ever'

April 06 2020

With restrictions on many essential groceries still in place in supermarkets across Australia, shoppers have become accustomed to the limit rules brought in by Woolworths, Coles and Aldi since the coronavirus outbreak first hit.

But while we’re used to seeing items such as toilet paper, pasta, rice and hand sanitisers sold in limited numbers, a new vegetable has made the restricted list at Woolies - and it’s very surprising.

While announcing the return of their Click ‘n’ Collect service to vulnerable shoppers in around 700 stores, Woolworths also revealed that they were introducing a two-packet restriction on pre-packaged carrots.

Shoppers using the service are now only allowed to buy two packs of carrots, a staple vegetable in many households.

The unlikely vegetable was included in Woolworths list of restricted items for Click N Collect shoppers.

The move has some shoppers scratching their heads on social media. ‘Since when are carrots restricted?’ asked one. ‘This is the most bizarre thing ever.’
Added another: ‘Has it got something to do with Easter? I can’t work it out.’

UPDATE

UPDATE: Woolworths has announced that they're planning to lift the restriction on packaged carrots, effective tomorrow.

The supermarket giant had originally included the limit on packaged carrots - restricting sales to two packets per customer - on their most recent communication for customers using their Click and Collect services.

But Woolies is now lifting the restriction, as its believed that suppliers had confirmed that they had enough carrots to meet demand.

Sounds like it's carrot cake all round, right?!

You can now only buy two packets of carrots per shop when you Click N Collect with Woolworths.
