Our thoughts are with her family

A TV meteorologist and mum-of-two has taken her own life after a battle to recover from laser eye surgery.

Jessica Starr, who worked for Fox 2 in Michigan, had been off work following the surgery which was to fix her eyes after 23 years of wearing contact lenses.

In a video posted to Facebook just before her sad death, she outlined the difficulties she was facing with her recovery. She said her eyes felt very dry and she was struggling to cope with that. She even asked viewers of the video to send in some tips to aid her recovery time.

"I am struggling a little bit,'' she said. "So I do still need all the prayers and the well wishes because this is a hard go."

Jessica's co-hosts on the TV channel have spoken about their friend and the devoted mother-of-two who had two degrees in meteorology and was passionate about her job.

In a statement they said, "All of us here at FOX 2 are in deep shock and cannot believe that such a wonderful, bright and intelligent individual will no longer be with us,'' the station said in a statement that aired on Thursday morning. "Her family and friends will be in our thoughts and prayers in the coming days as we all deal with our grief."

Six of her colleagues also gathered on air to express their sadness over her loss.

"It's tough to be here today, but as a family and thinking of her family, we're all working to get through this together," Fox 2 anchor Amy Andrews said. "Just keep Jessica's family in your thoughts and prayers as we go through this time.

"We're thinking of her viewers and her fans today and all the people who loved her."

Last month, Jessica had posted photos of her young children getting ready for Halloween on her Instagram page.
