Six-year-old girl is punched in the face at school
And teachers say they can’t do anything!
A Gold Coast family has pulled their young daughter out of school because of repeated bullying.
Six-year-old Summah Hillhouse is too afraid to go back to school after she was called names, had her hair pulled and was punched in the face by bullies.
Summah’s family told A Current Affair that teachers did nothing to stop the behaviour, forcing the family to find a new school.
“You can't send a six-year-old to school when she is frightened. It's like then we become the abusers,” her grandmother Kim Den Hertog said.
Summah’s family say that two boys also flashed their private parts at her and a friend in the playground.
The family added that teachers said that it wasn’t bullying because it “wasn’t happening every day.”
“We’re seeing more and more families saying ‘enough is enough’ … this is not okay and something needs to be done,” says child expert Dr Justin Coulson.
He also added that schools need to act after the first incident, not wait for things to escalate.
