A US mum claims she accidentally breastfed the wrong baby.
Melissa Richman from New Jersey says in a lawsuit that she was handed the wrong baby a nurse whom she happily breastfed for 20 minutes in September last year.
“It was the middle of the night. I had just had a very serious, three-hour C-section. I was extremely sick from all the medication. I was not in my right mind, and I didn’t think to check,’’ the 39-year-old mum of three told The New York Post.

Not long after the nurse came back and took the child, handing Melissa the right baby.
The lawsuit says once Melissa got the right baby, she was out of milk and her daughter had to be fed formula, meaning she didn’t get her mum’s colostrum.
This was the second time she had fed her daughter and the mix-up left her wondering if she had fed the right baby in the first place.
“This is just a horrible thing for a mother,’’ she said.
The mum was later asked to have three blood tests to ensure she didn’t pass any diseases onto the baby she breastfed.
Melissa and her husband are now suing the hospital for malpractice.
