A New Zealand midwife has been fined $11,400 for having an affair with a pregnant woman’s husband.
The midwife admitted to having a ‘number of sexual encounters’ during their five-month affair.
The NZ Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal said her actions were a 'severe breach of trust' and she has been forced to undergo counselling, as well as limit the number of clients she works with each year.
The couple reportedly became good friends with the midwife and her partner after the delivery of their second baby.
After their affair was uncovered, the midwife attempted to apologise to the mother.
‘My actions means that the special memories and intense emotions associated with the births of (the client’s) babies have been forever spoiled,’ she said.
