Feeling tired is part and parcel of being a parent, but before you go running for the coffee, there are natural ways you can feel more refreshed in your day. Stephen Eddey, a qualified nutritionist and naturopath, and principal of Health Schools Australia, has put together five easy ways to combat fatigue.
STAY HYDRATED
Sipping on water throughout
the day will ensure that digestion, circulation of blood and body temperature control all occurs naturally and effectively. Without hydration, your body has to work even harder to regulate these functions, which in turn depletes our energy sources as the day drags on.
KEEP ACTIVE
Daily exercise can help strengthen your heart, allowing it to pump more blood around your body, as well as make your brain release those ‘feel good’ endorphins. Whether it is a nice long walk pushing the pram, an active clean of the house while the kids are asleep, yoga or pilates stretches, you can help keep your body energised by remaining active.
GO GREEN
Matcha is the finely ground powder of specially grown, high-quality green tea, and one of the latest health trends. Touted a superior antioxidant, detoxifier and energy booster, matcha is naturally caffeinated, so it could be the perfect brew alternative to coffee.
UP YOUR UBIQUINOL
Ubiquinol is a powerful antioxidant that is found naturally in the body. Science shows that as we age or put our bodies under immense stress our levels can decline, often leaving us feeling fatigued and lacking in energy. It can be difficult lifting your ubiquinol levels from food sources, so your healthcare practitioner may recommend supplementation.
SLEEP TIGHT
It’s well-known that most parents don’t get the recommended seven to eight hours of sleep per night. Try and take your sleep as seriously as the rest of your health regime. Ask for help, and for someone to mind the kids if you need a break, and arrange your naps in line with your sleeping bub.
