Expert Review: DermaScar Platinum C&E
This little beauty targets scars, stretchmarks and more. Sign me up!
When this little beauty of a product landed on my desk to road-test, I thought I’d hit the jackpot.
The packet says, 'DermaScar – Silicone Gel for Scar Reduction with Vitamin C & E lightens, hydrates, softens & flattens scars'. And like that wasn’t enough to hook me, there’s this: ‘Clinically Proven Dermatologist Recommended’.
Sign me up!
As a mum of a 16-month-old toddler sporting more than my fair share of visible purple stretchmarks, as well as carrying scars on my face caused by burns from an accident I had 41 years ago (I was just 17 months old when I was burnt), I was pretty sure this product was created especially for me. Oh, and I have A LOT of photo damaged and pigmentation. Lucky me!
So, what does it do?
Well, like I mentioned, DermaScar® is specifically developed for scars and stretch marks (but it has a few hidden bonus extras benefits which I’ll get to later). The range of topical silicone gel products are clinically proven to visibly improve the appearance of scars in 4 weeks. Yes you read that right – 4 WEEKS!
I tried the premium version, DermaScar Platinum C&E, because, well, I have the trifecta of ‘issues’ to road test! But I have listed the 4 products in the range below, because different products suit different skin needs.
Who is DermaScar® for?
My scars are old, so it was very hard to tell if anything was really happening. Although the silicone gel certainly made the ‘bumpy’ keloid scar areas feel smoother. And, as a bonus, since my sun-exposed skin has been gracing Aussie beaches for 43 years now and admittedly has a few more fine lines and wrinkles than I’d like, the silicone helped smooth them out! Yay!
That said, the official DermaScar® spiel is that the product works better on scars not older than 2 years resulting from:
- Body surgery: C-section, thyroidectomy, cardiac surgery, etc.
• Facial surgery: eyelid surgery, etc.
• Stretch marks
• Minor scratches and insect bites
• Deep cuts
• Mild burns
So I was an extreme case.
How did it feel?
The silicone gel feels like liquid silk – a super smooth and slightly thick gel that both absorbs into the skin and feels like it sits atop the skin – smoothing out fine lines and bumpy scars thanks to its cosmetic properties. It’s also odourless, which is important to me. Since I have had children I feel sick from strong perfumes and smells!
How did I use it?
The directions say to apply twice daily (morning and evening). I used it on my face (scars, pigmentation and fine lines) under my make-up. In fact, it made a great make-up canvas! But you do need to wait a minute for it to dry before applying your foundation.
It lasts for up to 12 hours but to be honest I forgot all about the gel and my make-up after the first hour – you know what it’s like entertaining children in summer heat for 6 weeks straight! Although, that said, I didn’t notice that it rubbed off and it certainly didn’t end up on my clothing. Unlike the baby food did….
