Watkins took to social media to reveal that the new gig was bitter sweet following the death of her grandfather yesterday.
'Today was a day of new changes and energy,' she said in a lengthy Facebook post.
The post continued: “Sad that Poppy had passed away yesterday but happy to be surrounded by support from family and friends and my tour family, here in Canada.
'Today is my first radio show on Smooth FM and I know Poppy George would have been listening. Grateful for the power of music to uplift spirits, relive memories and make you dance.'
Emma's exciting news comes after the star has faced some tough times recently.
The star split from her husband, Lachlan Gillespie last year after two years of marriage.
Watkins also recently spoke to The Daily Telegraph about her desire to have children.
‘All of my friends have children but I’m thinking I’ve still got a lot to do,’ she said.
The dancer and singer also opened up about the fertility challenges she expects to face due to her ongoing battle with endometriosis.
‘I would actually have to try quite hard and I know with the endo I probably wouldn’t be able to plan it out anyway.’
Her comments came as news broke of her ex Lachlan dating another dancer, Australian Ballet senior artist Dana Stephensen.
