Fun for the whole family

With all the usual Easter festivities cancelled – from the Royal Easter Show and church services, to weekend getaways – we’re going to have to get creative in 2020. However, just like any other special occasion during this uncertain time we’re living in, there’s no reason to let it pass by and be another boring day at home.
Our family of five, with 3 kids under 7yrs, have planned out some super fun activities to spread across the long weekend. Below are my top 6 tips for making the most fun this Easter during home-isolation.
Easter baking – If you’re lucky enough to grab a packet mix before they’re all sold out #panicbuying, why not bake a cake in the shape of an Easter egg, or try your hand at Hot Cross Buns if you’re super clever. Our favourite [given our kids are a bit younger] is milk arrowroot biscuits with icing and smarties for decorations. Pro: food…duh.
Easter egg hunt – A classic but a goodie, regardless of the age of your kids they will still go crazy for an Easter egg hunt, even if it looks a bit different this year. Pro: at least when the kids find a hidden Easter egg in 2 months’ time I can feel less guilty about letting them eat it.
Paint your own Easter eggs – If there isn’t a shortage of eggs at your local supermarket grab a dozen and get crafty! Or if your kids are sad about missing their Easter Hat Parade, create a runway and let them strut their stuff with their creation. Pro: as an early childhood teacher this is my forte.
Backyard holiday – Our family loves to take a little getaway over Easter to make the most of the long weekend. If you’re the same – why not take a camping trip in the backyard? Or for the apartment dwellers, sip a cocktail and stare into the sunset, even if it’s on your TV screen. Pro: saving some $$$.
Family dress up – When you can’t leave the house you can wear whatever you want, so why not dress the whole family in matching bunny onesies? Best&Less has the cutest ones, even for Dad! Pro: comfort and insta-worthy family pics
