A breastfeeding mother has responded to a restaurant customer who asked her to ‘cover up’ in the most hilarious way.
Carol Lockwood shared a photo on Facebook of mum-of-three Melanie Dudley, 34, feeding her four-month-old baby.
The woman was pictured nursing her child in a hotel bistro with a floral blanket completely covering her face.
‘A friend’s daughter-in-law was told to ‘cover up’ while feeding her baby, so she did!’ the post read.
‘I’ve never met her, but I think she’s AWESOME!!! (Please share! With permission, I’ve made this post public — I’m SO over people shaming women for nursing!!’
The post attracted over 12,000 comments of people congratulating the mother on her courage and wit.
After it went viral, Lockwood added extra information to clear up any confusion as to why the woman was told to ‘cover up’.
‘PS: To reduce speculation: it was a man who asked her to cover up, it was 90 degrees and extremely humid, and, no, she wasn’t in a Muslim country disrespecting traditions,’ she wrote.
Dudley told Yahoo7 she was usually ‘discreet’ when breastfeeding, however decided to be spontaneous when her husband passed her the blanket.
‘I’m usually discreet but we were seated in the back of the restaurant,’ she explained.
