Every mum's breastfeeding journey is different, especially when it's time to return to work. Sometimes it's not possible to be near your little one at all times.
Here are six breast pumping hacks to make your life a little easier.
1. Cluster pumping
Babies feed on and off, which stimulates your body to produce more milk. Try and mimic the way your baby feeds when they are going through a growth spurt, the baby's suckling triggers sends a message to your body to make more milk.
2. Massage
Some mums benefit from a pre-pump massage. Watch the video below for a crash-course in giving yourself a massage.
3. Set reminders
Milk production is based on supply and demand. So when you’re away from your baby, set reminders into your phone and stick to the plan.
4. Freeze bags flat on their side
5. Relax and warm up
Actively try to relax using whatever method suits you best. The Australian Breastfeeding Association suggests expressing in a quiet, warm, relaxing area, away from distractions. The website also says, expressing after a warm shower or placing a warm washer on the breast before pumping may help.
6. Experiment with how much you pump
Experiment how many times a day you pump milk. For some mums, the amount of milk they produce is the same regardless of whether they pump two or three times a day.
