As technology becomes more advanced it makes sense that we turn to it for what can sometimes feel like an impossible task: naming your baby.
In an article published on Medium, coder web developer Nate Parrott came up with an algorithm that essentially invents names no one has ever heard of.
“I trained a neural network on a list of 7500 popular American baby names, forcing it to turn each name into a mathematical representation called anembedding, writes Nate.
“ Once I had a model that could translate between names and their embeddings, I could generate new names, blend existing names together, do arithmetic on names, and more.”
Using 7,5000 popular American baby names, Nate’s algorithm converted each moniker into numbers. The Algorithm then combines the numbers to create unfamiliar combinations
Apparently, the algorithm has been trained to recognise words that do and don’t look like names.
While we aren’t sure about using any of these, it could be something worth keeping around for future generations.
